Getting to Know L.A.C.E.
Monthly Meetings
are held at the
Elmhurst Public Library, located at 125 S
Prospect Ave,
Elmhurst, IL 60126., Illinois
in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Meetings take place on
the 3rd Saturday of each month (excluding December).
(Do not send L.A.C.E. correspondence to the Elmhurst Public
library.)
Educational classes
follow the first half of our
meeting. A business session is first followed by a lunch break. The second
half is devoted to learning and hands-on practical programs and classes where we
focus on lace making techniques.
Educational Committee often makes a short presentation on basic
topics in Bobbin laceing, especially beneficitial to new lacemakers.
Occasionally there is a lecture
or a field trip to a special lace related exhibit.
The Lace Library is
constantly reviewed, new books added and members are welcome to
borrow items. See the
Membership page
for more information.
Members
come from all surrounding areas and
backgrounds. While some are experts and instructors, others are
intermediate and beginning lacemakers whose interests range from the
making of all varieties of hand made lace to lace history and
collection. As a member, you will be surrounded by people who are
excited to meet you and will share with you their knowledge about all
aspects of lace and lace making. You will be provided with
opportunities to learn and grow in your lace interests. L.A.C.E.
quarterly newsletters are provided to all members.
More than just the formal meetings,
many members also
meet on their own in smaller groups to visit and make lace together.
We also participate in separate events, workshops and demonstrations.
L.A.C.E. is a charter member of the International Organization of Lacec, Inc.
Show and Tell: Every meeting members bring items to
share. This might consist of new projects, completed projects,
magazines and books that are of interest, awards, etc. These
are recognized shortly following the meeting.
Becoming a member is easy.
Download our membership form (PDF) which you can
print and then just follow the instructions on the form. Not sure
you want to join yet? Visit us by attending a meeting and program
and let us welcome you. Members are always more than happy to
problem solve after meetings. Lunch is not provided at the
meetings, however, there are restaurants nearby. Most members
bring a sack lunch.
